Sharad Joshi

Mr. Sharad Joshi has been the voice of the Indian perspective on a whole range of human rights, trade, climate change-related agenda and sustainable development at global levels for over 30 years now. 

CECOEDECON is a developmental organization which he started to work on the unfulfilled and ignored needs of partner communities belonging to rural areas primarily in Rajasthan and also in Madhya Pradesh. 

Following his strong belief in ensuring sustainability through community ownership, Mr. Joshi introduced the concept of Community Based Organizations in all elements of CECOEDECON’s works. Since then the organization has travelled a long way and developed expertise on several development areas including Institutional Development, Sustainable livelihoods, Health, Climate change, Gender, Human Rights etc.

The organization has been actively involved in health efforts aimed at decreasing the new born and child mortality, morbidity, child malnutrition; increasing access/availability of quality services; improving healthy practices; enhancing the capacities of the ministry, NGO and community partners; providing support to government schemes like ICDS etc. 

Mr. Joshi has been involved in dialogues on sustainable development since the 2000 Earth Summit, and in the UN’s Millennium Campaign (in which he was also the state coordinator) as well as the process for the development of the Sustainable Development Goals. CECOEDECON also holds a consultative status with the UN, thus being able to participate and contribute to various UN level discussions and debates.

Mr. Joshi has been a part of events such as: 

  1. United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Conference of the Parties COP 18, 19 and 20 (2012, 2013 and 2014 respectively).
  2. Asian and Pacific Regional Implementation Meeting on RIO+20 outcomes held at Bangkok in 2013.
  3. World Social Form 2013 held at Tunisa 
  4. UN Climate Summit, 2014

Mr. Joshi has been invited to serve on the board of several organizations including Sa-dhan-  an association of community development finance institutions (treasurer), Institute of Development Studies, Jaipur (IDS), Voluntary Action Network India (VANI) etc.; as well as government committees on subjects like livelihood (Madhya Pradesh State Mission Management Unit-Governing Council for effective implementation of National Urban Livelihoods Mission), clean development and health.
